Ducktown Basin Museum Offsite Exhibit

As our nation comes together to celebrate the 250th anniversary of United States independence, we invite you to look beneath the surface of the American story—literally.

Behind the grand speeches and historic battlefields of our nation’s history lies the raw grit of the industries that built it. The Ducktown Basin Museum is proud to present a special offsite exhibit honoring the enduring legacy of Appalachian mining and its vital contribution to the American journey.

For nearly two centuries, the Copper Basin region fueled American innovation, infrastructure, and wartime efforts. This exclusive offsite exhibit brings the best of the historic Burra Burra Mine site directly to you.

Here is a glimpse of what you will discover:

  • The Copper that Built a Nation: Learn how the mining operations spanning from 1850 to 1987 provided the raw materials that powered the American industrial revolution and connected a growing country.

  • Stories of Appalachian Resilience: Explore a rich collection of rare photographs, geological displays, and authentic mining artifacts that tell the stories of the hardworking local citizens who shaped southern Appalachia.

  • A Journey of Restoration: Discover the powerful history of the region’s environmental challenges and the incredible, ongoing reclamation efforts that reflect the true American spirit of renewal.

American independence isn’t just about the history we inherited—it’s about the heritage we preserve. Whether you are a history buff, a proud Tennessean, or a family looking to celebrate the USA’s 250th milestone with a unique cultural experience, this exhibit offers something for everyone.

Come celebrate our nation’s milestone by honoring the industry and people that helped build it!
