Copperhill Launches Successful Trap–Neuter–Return (TNR) Initiative
COPPERHILL, TN – February 25, 2026 – The City of Copperhill is pleased to announce a successful update on its Trap–Neuter–Return (TNR) program, an initiative aimed at humanely addressing the local stray and feral cat population.
The effort began when Mayor Greg Barker identified concerns regarding dumped and stray cats within the city. In response, the city partnered with Safe Haven Animal Rescue Program (SHARP) to implement a TNR program utilizing available spay and neuter grant funding.
Through a collaborative effort, Tri-State Spay & Neuter Clinic joined the initiative to perform the procedures. SHARP provided financial support through grant funding, while the city coordinated trapping and transportation of the animals. Tri-State Spay & Neuter Clinic completed the surgeries and administered rabies vaccinations.
As a result of this partnership, the first six community cats have now been successfully spayed or neutered and vaccinated.
Residents may notice that cats involved in the program have a small portion of their left ear tipped. This is a standard and humane practice performed while the animal is under anesthesia, allowing the community to easily identify cats that have already been treated.
TNR programs play a critical role in managing stray populations. Female cats can have litters of four to six kittens and may produce three or more litters each year. Spaying and neutering helps prevent overpopulation, improves animal health, and reduces nuisance behaviors.
The city extends its sincere appreciation to SHARP and Tri-State Spay & Neuter Clinic for their collaboration and commitment to this important initiative.
Additional updates will be shared as the next group of cats completes the program.
Support the Effort
The success of programs like this would not be possible without the continued support of community partners and organizations like SHARP. Residents who wish to contribute to ongoing spay/neuter and animal welfare efforts are encouraged to consider making a donation to SHARP. Community support helps expand these programs, improve animal health, and ensure resources are available to address future needs.
