City crews are focused on the emergency response and restoring the water system, so garbage collection will continue as conditions and manpower allow. Thank you for your patience. Please do not place trash bags on or in the back of city trucks. These vehicles are needed for emergency response and recovery work, and loading them with garbage takes them out of service and hinders those efforts. City residents who are able may take their garbage to the Polk County Grassy Creek Convenience Center free of charge. Details below.

Garbage Pickup Schedule
- Regular collection occurs weekly on Thursdays, or the next business day if Thursday falls on a holiday.
- Please have your garbage out by 7:00 AM on garbage pickup day.
- Ensure your garbage and/or garbage container is placed at the curb in a location that does not obstruct sidewalks, driveways, or roadways.
- Contact City Hall with questions, concerns, or to report a missed pickup.
Guidelines for Garbage Pickup
- We will collect up to six (6) bags per pickup. Any additional garbage is the resident's responsibility to dispose of and must not remain at the curb until the following collection date. Failure to remove excess garbage may result in a citation to City Court.
- Household garbage only. Garbage that appears to be commercial, construction, or otherwise not generated by your household will not be collected.
- All garbage must be securely placed in tied garbage bags before being set out for collection.
- Loose, unbagged garbage will not be collected.
- Waterlogged, saturated, or submerged garbage — including bagged garbage, whether inside a can or placed curbside — will not be collected.
- Do not place trash bags on, in, or against city vehicles. City vehicles are not collection containers — loading them creates safety hazards for crews and takes trucks out of service. Residents observed doing so will be subject to additional fees and may be cited to City Court for illegal dumping.
- Do not dispose of hazardous materials like paint, chemicals, or batteries in regular garbage.
- Bags should not be overweight or they will not be picked up.
- If you use a garbage bin or can, please remove it from the curb as soon as possible after pickup to help keep our streets clean and orderly.
- For large items like furniture or appliances, or yard waste, refer to special pickup options. These items will not be picked up.
Following these guidelines helps ensure safe, efficient collection for both residents and sanitation staff. If these requirements are not met, garbage will not be collected, and any bags that do not comply with the guidelines will be left at the curb.

Garbage Pickup Rates
$10.00 per month included as line item in your water and sewer bill.

New Residents
Visit City Hall to set up your garbage pickup service. Bring a valid government ID and proof of residency (a rental lease or proof of purchase of property).
Businesses
The city does not provide garbage pickup services for businesses. Businesses are responsible for arranging their own garbage collection.

They provide a convenient location for residents to responsibly dispose of household garbage, recyclables, and other approved materials. All Polk County residents can dump their garbage here free of charge, making it an accessible and valuable service for the community.
