The City of Copperhill is implementing a change to the residential trash pickup schedule following a resolution passed by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen during the February 2025 meeting. Beginning the first week in March, trash collection will shift from the current twice-a-week service to once-a-week pickup, scheduled every Thursday.
This change is part of the city’s strategic initiative to improve efficiency and ensure fiscal responsibility while maintaining essential services. The adjustment will also allow the city to allocate resources toward enhancing other community services and infrastructure.
Currently, the city spends an estimated $51,168 annually on trash collection, excluding vehicle maintenance and wear-and-tear costs. With residents paying $10 per month for trash service, the city receives $21,360 annually, resulting in a yearly deficit of $29,808—approximately one-third of the city’s annual property tax revenue. Under the new schedule, the annual deficit will be significantly reduced to $4,224.
“We understand this change may require adjustments for our residents, and we appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding,” said Mayor Barker. “Our goal is to continue providing dependable trash collection without the need for an immediate increase in service fees.”
Residents are reminded to place their trash bins curbside by 7:00 a.m. each Thursday to ensure timely collection. Guidelines and additional information regarding trash pickup can be found on the city’s Trash Pickup service page.
